A large World War II binocular with an original leather case, clear sighting, engraved L.V Kampen indicating Luftvaartafdeling; tested and working; dimensions 18 cm high, 19 cm wide, 7 cm deep, weight 1 kg; physical condition good.
Description from the seller
large binoculars from World War II in the original leather carrying case, clear sight, with engraving: L.V Kampen, meaning of the engravings:
L.V. (Aviation Department): This is the most likely meaning. The Aviation Department was the predecessor of the current Royal Netherlands Air Force. Before and during the early stages of World War II, binoculars owned by this branch of the military were marked with "L.V.".
KAMPEN: This refers to the town of Kampen. At that time the Isala-kazerne was located there, and Kampen was an important center for the training of officers (the so-called S.R.O.I. - School for Reserve Officers of Infantry). Often you see this kind of markings on optical sights from the Kershaw brand (English), Goerz (German) or the Dutch Nedinsco (Venlo). The Dutch government, in those years, bought from several manufacturers.
