Description from the seller
Collection of 45 antique Bennington marbles from the 19th century
A particularly beautiful collection of 45 original Bennington marbles, dating from the 19th century. Bennington marbles are recognizable by their solid ceramic construction and were made from high-fired clay, giving them a characteristic surface that ranges from matte to slightly glossy.
This collection shows a beautiful variety of natural earth tones, including gray, beige, red, ochre, green, and purple, with authentic patina and signs of wear that suit their age. The marbles originate from the period when Bennington marbles were mainly manufactured in Germany and subsequently exported in large quantities to Europe and America.
Condition is in keeping with its age: with light wear, color variations, and small imperfections, which contribute to the historic appearance and collectible value.
An attractive set for the collector of antique toys, marbles, or 19th-century folk culture.
