As a close friend and fellow band member of the free-form musical combo GRAY, photographer and producer Nicholas “ DJ High Priest” Taylor had the rare privilege to follow the early years of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s artistic career.

The extraordinary photographic series presented in the book, accompanied by ten highly personal essays extracted from Nicholas Taylor’s diaries, offers an intimate and candid insight into the life of the young Jean-Michel Basquiat as well as an atmospheric portrait of the wild creativity erupting from the New York downtown scene of 1979.
