French portico clock in blackened wood with gilded bronze detailing, two-train mechanical movement with half-hour strike on a single gong, bronze pendulum, 45 × 23 × 12 cm, weight about 2.1 kg, signed Vincent & Cie Paris, dating 1850–1900, in good used condition with minor wear and a winding key, in working order.
Description from the seller
French portico clocks in blackened wood and gilded bronze - Vincent & Co., Paris - 19th century.
Elegant French portico clock dating from the 19th century, typical of the Restoration / early Louis-Philippe period.
The structure is made of blackened wood, resting on a rectangular plinth adorned with floral motifs and gilded trim, framed by two twisted columns characteristic of this type of clockmaking. The whole is richly decorated with gilded monks finely carved, notably around the dial, at the capitals and bases of the columns, and on the decorative balance wheel.
The circular dial in white enamel with Roman numerals features two winding holes corresponding to a two-train mechanical movement (timekeeping and striking ). The hands are blued steel.
The brass movement is signed 'Silver Medal - Vincent & Cie - Paris', with stamped number 824, attesting to a Parisian manufacture of quality by a renowned 19th-century watchmaking firm.
The clock retains its bronze balance wheel, visible on the façade, contributing to the elegance and visual balance of the whole.
The clock is working and has a winding key.
Good overall condition considering its age, small losses of wood and veneer on the lower corners of the base, exposing the old wood, wear and localized losses of the blackened veneer, slight enamel chipping around the reassembly holes, wear and scratches from use, especially on the corners; see the photos – they are part of the description.
