Andries Dirk Copier
Born in 1901 in Leerdam. Died in 1991 in The Hague.

AD Copier is probably the most famous and important glass designer in the Netherlands. Copier started working at the glass factory in Leerdam at the age of 13. The director at the time recognized the young glass engraver's drawing talent and sent him to a typography course in Utrecht and then to the Academy for Art and Technology in Rotterdam. In 1923, at the age of 22, Copier officially joined Leerdam as a glass artist. In 1924 Copier designed his first Leerdam Unica.

Besides his work as a glass artist, he was also an important designer of industrial glass for the glass factory in Leerdam, with the peak being the famous Guild Service with Guild Glass (wine glass), which to this day is still in production. In addition to Leerdam, Copier also worked for other major glass factories in Murano, Acquoy and Novy Bor. From 1950 to 1952, Andries Copier was director of the School of Applied Arts in Amsterdam (now the Rietveld Academy).

Copier's glassware is widely collected by collector circles and can be found in numerous private and museum collections worldwide.
