Articulated arm prosthesis specimen by Otto Bock, made of stiff leather with a functional elbow joint, length 53 cm, width 10 cm, weight 514 g, origin Germany, dating to circa 1930–1950, in fairly good used condition.
Description from the seller
Antique articulated arm prosthesis - Otto Bock - Articulation No. 3 - 1930/1950
Rare collectible item: Genuine right-arm prosthesis (or complex forearm) from the famous German manufacturer Otto Bock, a world leader in orthopedics since 1919.
This piece is an exceptional historical testament to medical engineering in the first half of the twentieth century (circa 1930–1950). It likely served a civilian or war-disabled person, illustrating the transition from artisanal craft to high-precision industrial production.
Technical specifications
• Manufacturer: Original marking "Otto Bock 3" visible on the inner joint.
• Materials: Thermoformed, rigid leather sheath (boiled leather), forearm and hand sculpted with a flesh-colored protective coating.
• Mechanism: functional elbow joint with original hardware and twill fabric straps.
• Details: Presence of attachment rings (D-rings) for the shoulder harness.
Condition status
The object is presented in its natural state, which lends it remarkable authenticity for a cabinet of curiosities. A handsome patina of use is visible on the fingers, and there are a few cracks and losses on the forearm's coating, in no way affecting the piece's structural solidity. No modern restoration has been performed to preserve its historical integrity.
Dimensions : length 53 cm
Weight: 514 g
A fascinating piece for any collector of the history of medicine, militaria, or oddities.
