Zeiss Ikon Contessa LKE rangefinder camera, 35 mm film, built‑in coupled light meter, Tessar 2.8/50 lens, Prontor 500 LK shutter, production period 1963–1968, serial number 3948911, tested and working.
Description from the seller
Exceptionally beautiful and functional Zeiss Ikon LKE camera.
Production period 1963 - 1968.
This is a rangefinder camera; the camera features a built-in, coupled rangefinder.
Using an optical–mechanical system, focusing in the viewfinder is achieved by turning the focus ring, overlaying two parallel images visible in the center of the viewfinder. When the images coincide, the subject is in sharp focus. This allows for quick focusing.
Viewfinder and recording lenses are both in optimal condition.
A hallmark of the Zeiss Ikon Contessa is the overall quality, the compact construction, the rangefinder, and the (by the standards of the time) high-quality lens: the Carl Zeiss Tessar 2.8/50 (four elements in three groups). Sharpness, contrast, and image rendition are of a remarkable level and characteristic for this type of lens. Especially with black-and-white film, surprising results can be achieved.
A smooth, backlash-free rotating distance adjustment ring.
Prontor 500 LK central shutter; shutter speeds from 1/15 to 1/500 second and B.
The shutter speeds have been tested visually and by ear. The shutter responds adequately to the set times, but the accuracy cannot be guaranteed, of course.
ISO settings, shutter speeds and aperture can be set separately with the rings around the taking lens, where the self-timer is also located.
Cocking the shutter, with the lever at the back of the camera, is linked to the film transport and operates smoothly and without hitch.
At the bottom of the camera are the tripod mount, the film rewind lever, and on the side the lock for the hinged back panel.
The shutter button on top of the camera operates smoothly and is equipped with threads for a cable release.
The selenium light meter still seems to work; the needle on the camera and in the viewfinder responds to the amount of light and the camera settings (film speed, aperture, and shutter speed). The accuracy must, of course, be established empirically (with film) and is, given the age, already doubtful in advance.
Film format: 35 mm ('small image'); 36 negatives of 24 x 36 mm.
Dimensions of the camera: 12 x 9 x 7.5 cm
Weight: 640 grams.
The camera will be carefully packed, registered, insured, and traceable, and will be shipped.
