Ettore Sottsass Jr. (1917-2007) is regarded as a cult figure and pop star in the history of international design. The architect born in Innsbruck and raised in Trentino, who pursued his education in Milan, created a body of work that is as broad as it is extraordinary, in which he often—humorously and sometimes provocatively—questioned the conventions of classic design.
In honor of his 100th birthday, the Institute of Art History at the Leopold-Franzens University of Innsbruck organized an international symposium. This volume contains six essays by renowned experts, who cover a wide range of topics, from his early buildings to his iconic late work, and highlight aspects of Sottsass's versatile oeuvre that have received little attention to date.
