Description from the seller

Ancient Greek icon 'Extended Deesis' from the 19th century.

Hand-painted on a wooden panel with egg tempera paints on a chalky ground and a gold base.

The motif is rather rare and very popular in the Orthodox Church.

This is an Old Believer icon. The painting is executed in a relatively detailed manner. The color contrasts are perfectly coordinated and the shading is well done.

The painting contains very authentic scribbles (see photos). Partial restorations are present (see photos). Especially expressive and striking are the faces of the saints (see photos).

The saints are labeled. Some of the inscriptions are difficult to read.

The icon was created around 1850–1880 in Greece. A stable and solid wooden panel. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of wear (see photos).

All details are clearly visible in the photos. Photos are part of the description.
