Rare Carrara marble column with Greek meander engravings dating to 1850–1900, 100 cm high and 24 cm square, in good used condition with age-related wear and stains.
Description from the seller
A very rare Carrara marble column with carved motifs. The column is very old; the wear and the marble's opacity demonstrate its age. Beautiful in appearance and form, its greatest attribute is the fascinating carvings that characterize it.
In the lower zone, the imposing large circular portion carved with a Greek key meander stands out, followed by a swollen sphere finely worked with vertical fluting (baccellature).
The central shaft is turned in sections, the first with a splendid motif of rounded molding and vertical grooves, the second with a twisted motif.
In the column there are several rings, also carved, like the prestigious central ring carved in the shape of a rope.
The column is crafted from Carrara marble, a precious marble quarried in Italy and used since ancient times in mosaics and famous architectural works, distinguished by veining in varying shades of black, white, and gray, which confer natural excellence and majesty.
The column can be divided into multiple pieces with an internal metal core. The octagonal-shaped lower capital ensures excellent stability, and on the practical surface you can display valuable objects.
The antiquity enclosed in this rare special object transports you back in time. A jewel from a bygone era to pair with important antique pieces, but also with the more modern Liberty-inspired styles.
In contrast to the clean lines of modern, design-focused settings, it adds a timeless touch of luxury.
It will be shipped disassembled, carefully packed, and insured.
