Description from the seller
Large altar crucifix in carved and gilded wood – late 19th / early 20th century
Important altar crucifix, carved wood, polychrome and gilded, depicting Christ on the cross.
Christ is sculpted in the round with expressive modeling: head inclined, crown of thorns finely worked, a suffering face, torso anatomically rendered with the side wound visible.
The perizonium is sculpted into deep folds and highlighted with gilding.
The cross is wooden with applied decoration, featuring veneer imitating dark wood and a gilded frame. Titulus « INRI » carved and fixed in the upper part. Radiant halo behind the head of Christ.
The base is integrated into the cross: an architectural base with bulbous forms, gilded, typical of late 19th-century altar productions, probably from a Germanic or Alpine area (work of the Tyrol / Bavaria type).
Antique condition with normal wear to the gilding and polychromy, small signs of aging, no major damage. Sculpture is sound and stable.
Photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation. They allow you to assess their condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
