Description from the seller
MAX AUB. CARD GAME.
Drawings by Josep Torres Campalans.
ORIGINAL EDITION. MEXICO 1964. Alejandro Finisterre, Editor.
An exceptional batch of Max Aub's card game. An unusual literary deck, or a novel of playing cards.
This legendary FIRST EDITION, of which only 300 copies were made in Mexico in 1964, is for sale. A unique opportunity for collectors.
Max Aub plays in the work with the double meaning of the word carta, both as epistolary genre and as a playing card, since it involves a double deck of Spanish and French cards with two jokers. In total 106 cards, which have on one face drawings of the different suits attributed to Jusep Torres Campalans (the author's own heteronym) and on the other letters; the order in which the cards are read in the game doesn’t matter—each card begins and ends by telling us an episode of the main character, Máximo Ballesteros, and they allow us to reconstruct his life.
Max Aub created the game 22 years after arriving in Mexico.
106 cards measuring 18 x 11 cm. (104 narrative cards + 2 jokers)
All in good condition except for one AS that is missing a piece, although it does not affect the text that follows. (see photo)
The container shows some wear and tear due to age (see photos).
Conservation status: Normal
