Description from the seller
Gypsum – Saline di Volterra, Tuscany (Italy)
An attractive specimen of high-quality gypsum from the renowned locality Saline di Volterra, famous worldwide for producing some of the finest gypsum crystals. The crystals are exceptionally clean, lustrous, and well-terminated, with a strongly prismatic habit that resembles tourmaline crystals in appearance.
The specimen consists of an aesthetic cluster of intergrown crystals in a natural arrangement, showing subtle grey to smoky tones, locally accented by a natural iron-oxide patina that adds depth and character. The contrast between the transparent crystals and the matrix is particularly appealing.
An excellent piece for:
collectors of fine European mineral localities
aesthetic display collections
a representative example of top-quality gypsum
Saline di Volterra is rightly considered one of the world’s best localities for this type of gypsum, and this specimen is a beautiful example of its exceptional quality.
