Description from the seller

Old set of brass balance weights, mounted on an original solid wood block. This is a classic set used in precision balances (commercial or laboratory scales), dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.

The weights are made of solid brass, with a turned upper handle, and bear engraved inscriptions displaying their respective masses (grams), visible on several specimens. The wooden block, one piece, has individual cavities for each weight, evidencing artisanal craftsmanship and long-standing use over time.

Composition
Set consisting of several weights of different sizes (from large weights to small increments), allowing a wide range of measurements. Ideal for old two-pan balances.

Approximate dimensions of the block
• Length: ~20 cm
• Depth: ~6 cm
• Height: ~7 cm

Condition
Good overall health for age.
Displays natural patina, wear marks, and slight oxidation compatible with antiquity. The wood shows surface wear, cracks, and stains typical of historical use. Complete and stable set.

Notes
Very interesting piece for:
• Collectors of antique scientific and commercial instruments
• Vintage / industrial decor
• Museology, scenography, or restoration of antique weighing scales

An authentic object, with strong decorative and historical value, difficult to find in a complete and original set.

Seller's Story

I am passionate about art, antiques, and decorative objects with historical and aesthetic value. I carefully select unique pieces for auction, prioritizing those that stand out for their originality, quality, and history. I have a special affinity for antique mirrors inspired by the work of Alphonse Mucha, acquired from private collections and antique shops in Portugal and France. I also place great importance on pieces made of carved wood, especially in gilded relief, which represent the refinement and craftsmanship of classical decorative arts.
