Description from the seller

Sceptre, Adan culture, Togo. H54cm

A grand and atypical Adan scepter from Togo. It is rare to see an Adan object of this style, it’s the first one I’ve seen in 15 years; objects from Ghana, Togo and Nigeria are my specialty. The sculpture is dynamic and alive. There is motion in this work. The whole has its own balance, in a beautiful asymmetry! The central figure is absorbed, immersed in the parallel worlds of spirits. Clothed in fabrics. Underneath, two figures support it. This object takes us to a naïve and dreamlike universe. The sculpture is simplified and schematic; there is a primary force emanating from this object. Beautiful dry patina, with traces of dried blood in places. It’s an ancient object; the wood and patina testify to that. A beautiful old and authentic collectible piece. Circa 1950.
