Description from the seller
Comtoise or Morbier style wall clock, signed by L. Gauthier à Ambernas, made in the 19th century with an imposing length of 150 cm. This piece represents the French rural clockmaking tradition, enriched with decorative details that elevate its presence to the status of an artistic object.
The case is ornamented with ormolu appliques (fire-gilded brass), forming a vegetal-inspired frame with scrolls, flowers and garlands, typical of the Art Nouveau style. The front features inlaid crystals that provide subtle flashes and enhance the richness of the ensemble. The circular dial, with Roman numerals and stylized hands, is crowned by a decorative medallion, while the large pendulum bears agricultural reliefs: ears of grain, a sickle and farm tools, a symbol of rural life that gave rise to these clocks.
It operates with a weight-driven mechanism, though it requires maintenance due to the passage of time. It is a collectible piece that combines history, craftsmanship, and decorative elegance, ideal for characterful interiors or collectors who value authenticity and the soul of objects.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
