Description from the seller
Ordination chalice in vermeil silver, champlevé enamels – Central Europe, dated 1920
Neo-Gothic style liturgical chalice in silver partially gilded (vermeil), preserved in its original leather-covered box.
The polylobed foot is richly decorated with vine tendrils, grape clusters, and scrolls, bearing Eucharistic symbolism, finely repoussé and chiselled.
It is adorned with four circular medallions in blue champlevé enamel of excellent quality, depicting:
• The Crucifixion - Christ on the cross surrounded by the Virgin Mary and Saint John, with the inscription I.N.R.I.
The Entombment of Christ
• Three saintly bishops, identified by inscriptions engraved on the back:
• Saint Peter
• Saint Theophilus
• Sanctus Odilo. Each medallion is framed by a vegetal, chiselled decoration alternating matte and polished surfaces. The spherical knot is adorned with relief tendrils and a beaded frieze. The cup, gilded on the inside, presents ancient hammering and a uniform patina. The plaques on the reverse of the foot bear commemorative Latin inscriptions:
Plaque 1: DIE XXX NATI MCMXX → "Born on the thirtieth day, 1920"
Plaque 2: + To my dear nephew Odilius Richardus → "To my dear nephew, Odilius Richardus"
Plaque 3: PETRO … THEOPHILVS ET → Reference to Saint Peter and Saint Theophilus (abbreviated form)
Plaque 4: ORDAINED PRIEST ANSCHARVS → « To Ansgar, ordained priest »
These inscriptions confirm that it is a chalice given on the occasion of a priestly ordination, in a family setting.
There is an unidentified silversmith’s mark under the base (private mark), which does not allow a formal geographic attribution, but the overall stylistic characteristics, iconography, and epigraphy point toward a Central European production, probably in the German-speaking area, in the early 20th century.
Very good original condition.
Photos are an integral part of the description of objects and complement their presentation.

It will be very well packaged and protected to reach you quickly by tracked postal parcel.
