Description from the seller
Important gilded bronze votive crown, 19th century - Europe
Large procession or statue crown, in finely chased and gilded bronze, richly adorned with colored stones and cut crystals, of high-quality workmanship, probably from Central Europe or Southern Europe (Italy / Austria).
The structure consists of eight openwork arches, decorated with relief foliate scrolls, gathered at a summit globule topped with a trilobed cross set with a blue cabochon. The ornament is particularly meticulous, alternating emerald-green oval stones, ruby-red and pink stones, accompanied by small faceted white crystals evoking old-cut diamonds (paste glass or crystal, not tested).
The lower band is also openwork, adorned with floral motifs and set with polychrome stones, giving the whole piece a strong liturgical and ceremonial character. The old gilding is uniform, with a beautiful patina.
High-quality religious goldsmith work intended for a statue of the Virgin or a crowned saint, or for processional use.
Dimensions: Height: 28 cm x Inner diameter (head circumference): 11.5 cm Condition:
Very good overall condition. Some normal micro-wear to the gilding, slight irregularities in the setting visible under magnification, with no major missing pieces. Stable structure.
