An impressive square tray in polychrome marble, of notable stage presence and craftsmanship, made with precious marbles in warm, deep tones, including an intense Pompeian red, deftly paired with light and dark marbles in a refined geometric pattern.
The surface is decorated with an eight-pointed star achieved by inlay, a motif of great formal balance and strong symbolic value, typical of decorative compositions in a classical taste. The chromatic rendering and the natural patina of the surfaces suggest the use of ancient marbles, probably reclaimed, attributable by material characteristics and wear to stone elements from the early years of the nineteenth century, subsequently reused for the creation of this tray.
