Description
This impressive and heavy Baoulé bronze anklet originates from Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa. Such objects were traditionally cast using the lost-wax technique and served as symbols of identity, prestige, rank and social status within Baoulé society.
These anklets were intentionally made massive and heavy, emphasizing wealth and importance rather than daily comfort.
Depending on decoration and size, they were worn during important ceremonies such as funerals, rites of passage and major social events, and in some contexts could also function as prestige currency or protective objects.
The surface is richly decorated with geometric incised patterns and dotted motifs, creating a rhythmic ornamental structure typical of Baoulé metalwork.
The decoration highlights a central frieze encircling the object.

A visible old crack with an early metal repair is present, indicating prolonged traditional use.
