Description from the seller
The Marka are a very close ethnic group to the Bambara, whose art is notably characterized by their masks covered with brass plates, like this one.
Among the Marka, Do is the spirit to which masks give shape and that constitutes its expression.
It comes from the bush, through leaf masks, and in some mythical cases, through fiber masks and carved wooden heads.
In the religious system of the Marka society, Do is the most invoked and its cult the most elaborate.
The Marka are organized into structured and hierarchical mask societies.
There exists an initiatory language of communication for the initiated. Object in very good condition, well preserved in its natural state, with no restoration.
