Original hand-coloured steel engraving map by Major Radefeld, dated 1856, from Meyer's Great Hand Atlas, published by Bibliographisches Institut Hildburghausen.
The map shows a detailed geographical representation of the Crimea region at the end of the Crimean War and includes two inset maps (fortress town of Sevastopol and surroundings, and the Strait of Kerch or Cimmerian Bosporus). It depicts terrain features, rivers, transport routes and cities.
The Crimean War was fought between the Russian Empire and an alliance of the Ottoman Empire, the Second French Empire, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont from October 1853 to February 1856.
Very detailed, finely engraved, border-coloured steel engraving map.
