Description from the seller
Rare Steiff Mungo Monkey Pair – 21 cm and 14 cm (1960s)
Offered for sale is a rare Steiff Mungo monkey pair in the smallest and medium size versions: 21 cm and 14 cm.
These models were produced in the 1960s and are documented in the literature:
(See: Steiff Selection 1947–1995, page 250.)
The special value of this set lies in the fact that both figures have remained together as a matching pair, which is highly uncommon and especially sought after by Steiff collectors.
Features:
original Steiff Mungo monkey models
sizes: 21 cm and 14 cm
produced in the 1960s
original plush/mohair fur
blue glass eyes
hand-embroidered facial features
long arms and legs with classic seated posture
original Steiff button on the ear (visible in the photos)
Historical and collector significance:
The Mungo monkey is one of Steiff’s most charming post-war animal designs. Pairs preserved together are far rarer than single examples and represent an important collector’s item from Steiff’s creative period.
Condition:
Both figures are structurally sound with original materials.
The fur is well preserved with no visible wear.
Light age-related patina is present, consistent with authentic vintage Steiff pieces.
They retain their original shape and character, with strong stitching and stable form.
Summary:
A rare and desirable Steiff Mungo monkey pair from the 1960s, in the smallest and medium size versions (21 cm and 14 cm), documented in Steiff Selection 1947–1995, page 250.
A fine collector’s piece for serious Steiff enthusiasts.
