Description from the seller
The Sapho pattern from Saint-Louis is a timeless classic, a sublime example of French elegance from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Its distinctive feature is the engraving of garlands and bows, which evokes the Louis XVI style with an almost ethereal delicacy.
Set of 8 Saint-Louis goblets – Model "Sapho" (Circa 1900)
Splendid and elegant set of high-quality crystal goblets, crafted by the prestigious French crystal manufacturer Saint-Louis, the oldest crystal maker in Europe and supplier to the royal household.
The Sapho model is famous for its refined acid-etched decoration. The cup features a delicate garland of flowers and leaves, supported by theatrical bows (ribbons) in Neoclassical style. The stem is smooth and slender, ending in a circular foot that ensures perfect balance and harmony in the proportions.
Main Features
Manufacture: Saint-Louis (France).
Model: Sapho.
Production period: Early 20th century (ca. 1900-1930).
Material: crystal of the highest sound quality, famous for its transparency and brilliance.
Technique: Acid etching with ultra-fine details created with a burin.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The crystal retains all of its original shine.
These goblets are not mere glasses, but works of art that bring to the table the history of French savoir-faire. Perfect for a luxury place setting or to enrich a display of antique crystal. Their rarity and the signature of one of the world's most prestigious maisons also make them an excellent investment.
Note: As these pieces were produced before 1936, the goblets may not bear the Saint-Louis acid mark (introduced later), but the model is widely documented in the manufacturer's historical catalogs.
