Set of two Eskaf Art Deco vases, model 241, designed by W.H. van Norden (c. 1925–1930), polychrome plateel with a black ground and stylised floral decor in yellow, orange, green, blue and purple, each 31 cm high and 15.5 cm in diameter, both base-marked with the Eskaf gieter mark, in reasonable condition with noted damage: vase 1 has a hairline on one ear, vase 2 has a crack along nearly its full length and a damaged foot.
Description from the seller
Set of two original Eskaf Art Deco vases, model 241, designed by W.H. van Norden (c. 1925–1930). This model, with the distinctive "ears", is a well-known design from the Eerste Steenwijker Kunst-Aardewerk Fabriek and representative of Dutch decorative porcelain from the interwar period.
Decoration
The vases are made in polychrome earthenware. The hand-painted, stylized floral decoration in yellow, orange, green, blue and purple stands out sharply against the deep black background. The glaze has a good shine, and the colorful decoration has been well preserved.
trademark
Both vases are marked on the bottom with the authentic Eskaf gieter-mark (see photos).
Dimensions
Height: 31 cm
Vase diameter (widest point): 15.5 cm
Foot diameter: 10 cm.
Condition
The set is in reasonably good condition with clear signs of aging:
Vase 1: has a small hairline crack in one of the handles (see detail photo).
Vase 2: It has a crack along almost its entire length and damage to the base (see photos).
Despite these defects, the vases are technically stable and very suitable for decorative use (for example on a cabinet), with the damage not immediately noticeable when arranged properly.
