Roman solid silver knee-type bow fibula in a rare complete condition including the full spring, pin and catchplate. The fibula has a finely detailed knob on the foot of the bow and has a band with incised linear decorations on the bow.
± 30,9 x 18,4 mm
Good and solid condition, complete with pin (rigid) and catchplate. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images.
Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).
Typical for a knee type fibula is the short bow with a sharp bend, giving the appearance of a bended knee. Knee type fibulae are common from Britain to the Lower Danube, but are also found further away, as far away as Syria. They are generally a Roman military type.
Catawiki disclaimer: This piece has been dated based on style by the seller . No further tests, such as, a TL test, analysis of metals(XRF-test), lapidary tests, analysis of pigments or radiography scans have been conducted to check the integrity of the piece.
