An elegant Victorian portable brass microscope dating from the second half of the 19th century, produced by the prestigious London firm T. & H. Doublet, Opticians, suppliers to important hospitals such as Guy’s Hospital, St. Thomas’s Hospital, and the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital.

The instrument features a compact brass construction, with a telescoping tube for focusing and an adjustable lower mirror for illuminating the specimen, in keeping with the classic configuration of field microscopes of the era.

It is kept in its original wooden box, complete with the original label bearing the manufacturer's mark, the address (11, Moorgate Street, Bank, London), and printed operating instructions, an item of great rarity and collectible value.
