Description from the seller
Lamb mold (lemele) Pascal from the 19th century.
- Folk art object, antiques, flea market items.
- Period: years 1800 to 1900.
- Origin: Soufflenheim (renowned pottery village), Alsace (France).
- In glazed terracotta and metal.
- Condition: the mold is in very good condition despite minor but normal signs of use on its external faces due to its age and usage.
- Rare fact: it still has its original metal clasp.
An authentic, old, and traditional glazed terracotta Alsatian Easter lamb mold called “lemele,” it was, in the past (but it can still be used today) used to prepare the Easter lamb—a traditional and iconic Alsatian pastry—offered on Easter morning.
If it isn’t used to cook a lamb, it will make a pleasant decoration in a house or apartment, reflecting the rich Alsatian cultural heritage.
