Description from the seller
This refined porcelain sculpture depicts a classical 'scène galante' known as the shoe fitting, a beloved theme in European porcelain art. The composition shows an elegantly dressed gentleman in a kneeling position helping a lady in a richly floral-patterned gown to try on a shoe. The piece is executed with exceptional attention to detail, as reflected in the fine facial features, the lace details of the sleeves, and the intricate painting of the garments. The sculpture sits on a characteristic Rococo base with gilded carving and a tree stump as a natural support for the figures. At the underside there is a blue underglaze mark of crossed swords with three dashes on the hilts, indicating a high-quality German manufacture in the Meissen tradition. The piece is a beautiful decorative collector’s item that perfectly captures the luxury and elegance of 18th-century court culture.
