Red Stone Amulet of Pataikos
Style of 664-332 BC
This red stone amulet depicts Pataikos, a dwarf deity from Egyptian mythology. He is depicted with a large head, a squat body, and he stands atop a flat and integral base. Perforated at the back of his head.
In ancient Egypt, Pataikos was venerated as a guardian deity, believed to offer protection to individuals and households against malevolent spirits and supernatural threats. He was also associated with fertility and rebirth, embodying the cyclical nature of life and death in Egyptian religious beliefs.

Provenance: Private UK Ancient Art Collection formerly acquired on the UK, European, and USA Art Markets from pre-1960 Collections.
