Description from the seller

Rare Pair of Art Nouveau Oak & Brass Candlesticks – Designed by Gustav Serrurier-Bovy – Belgium, ca. 1900–1910
In excellent condition – No reserve.

A rare and architecturally powerful matching pair of oak and brass candlesticks, designed by Gustav Serrurier-Bovy and executed in Belgium around 1900–1910, at the height of the Art Nouveau movement.

These candlesticks are a documented design by Serrurier-Bovy and form part of a known interior garniture model. The design language is unmistakable: tall, vertical oak bodies with sharply defined fluting, combined with restrained yet elegant brass arms and candle holders. This synthesis of architectural severity and refined ornamentation is characteristic of Serrurier-Bovy’s mature work and his transition from Art Nouveau toward early Art Deco.

Comparable examples are recorded as part of clock garnitures produced in Brussels workshops, including Atelier Vokaer, and are illustrated in period photographs and specialist literature.
