Description from the seller

A truly rare antique reliquary- or historical poison ring from Italy, probably dating from the late 18th to early 19th century.
The ring is made of silver (tested, but without a hallmark – typical of early Italian work before the introduction of assay marks) and is richly decorated with fine filigree and granulation work. The shank is constructed in a multi-part turned form, a characteristic feature of high-quality Italian goldsmithing of this period.
The ring head can be opened via an original hinge and reveals a small interior compartment in which textile and paper-like fragments are present. Such rings were historically worn as reliquary rings or secret rings (also known as Giftringe). Notably, the original, contemporary velvet case is worth particular mention.
Good condition for its age with authentic patina. The mechanism is fully functional. No modern repairs are detectable.
Material: silver (tested), Origin: Italian private collection

A rare and authentic collectible for lovers of historical jewelry art, memento mori objects, or curiosities of the 18th/19th centuries.
