Description from the seller
Large antique altar crucifix in bronze alloy with a radiant halo – late 19th / early 20th century.
Large antique altar crucifix made of bronze alloy with original patina, dating from the late 19th – early 20th century.
The object features a mixed construction typical of religious art of the period, combining repoussé metal elements (radiant glory and decorative ornaments) with molded parts (the figure of Christ and the base).
The Christ is finely sculpted with good anatomical details and mounted on a crucifix with a twisted shaft.
The circular base, richly decorated with vegetal and symbolic motifs, provides good stability and confirms the liturgical or devotional use of the object.
The set as a whole preserves a uniform antique patina, with no apparent modern restoration.
Period: around 1880–1910
Origin: Western Europe (probably France or Northern Italy)
Material: bronze alloy (mixed construction, partly sheet metal and cast)
Dimensions: Height 46 cm – Width 17 cm – Depth 12 cm
Weight: approx. 900 g
Condition: good antique condition, with wear and signs of aging appropriate to its age.
