This superb specimen from the Peñas Blancas mine (Boyacá) is a showroom piece that exemplifies the excellence of the Western Emerald Belt. The crystal stands out for its hexagonal prismatic habit of absolute geometric precision, capped by a perfectly flat basal pinacoid and a mirror-like luster.
• Color and Saturation: It presents the vibrant 'grass' green characteristic of the best Colombian formations, driven by color centers rich in chromium.
• Clarity and Diaphaneity: Transparency is good, allowing a sharp view into its interior. Although it has the natural 'garden' of inclusions typical of its genesis, these do not compromise the piece's visual integrity.
In addition to the main crystal, we can find numerous emeralds scattered through the matrix comprised of white calcite, which creates a good color contrast and zones of natural oxidation produced by hydrothermal fluids.
