A two‑piece Swedish silver‑plated Victorian antique sugar bowl set with a matching pierced sugar sifter spoon, dating from 1870–1890, featuring vermeil interior and Rococo‑influenced handles.
Description from the seller
An elegant antique sugar bowl with a matching sugar sifter spoon, produced in Sweden between 1870 and 1890, designed in a beautiful Victorian design with strong Classical and Rococo influences. The set is of a good size and looks fantastic together.
The sugar bowl stands on a round pedestal base, lifted by a narrow stem. The interior is vermeil (gold-washed). This was used to prevent sulfur in sugar and food from affecting the silver, while also giving a luxurious look.
Decorative ovolo (egg and dart) molding runs around both the lid and the base.
The handles are made in a beautiful Rococo style with scrolled shapes and elegant leaf motifs. The lid includes a cut notch that allows the sifter spoon to sit inside perfectly while the bowl is closed.
The set comes with a matching sugar sifter spoon. The spoon's bowl is pierced and designed for sprinkling powdered or granulated sugar over fruit or desserts. It features a seashell motif on the bowl and on the handle, and it is made in a King’s pattern, which matches the bowl very well.
Signed:
On the bottom, the sugar bowl is hand-signed with the initials of the artist and numbers. The marking is slightly worn but clearly visible.
Condition:
Lovely condition with light surface wear. There are some signs of wear to the silver plating, nothing serious at all. Inside the bowl, there are age spots and very light wear to the gilding. As you can see in the photos, the set looks fantastic overall.
Measurements:
Sugar bowl height: 25 cm
Width with handles: 21 cm
Depth: 16 cm
Sugar sifter spoon length: 20.7 cm
Spoon bowl width: 6.5 cm
