Description from the seller
Luxurious Carl Gustaf Hallberg silver-plated sugar bowl with a matching long sugar spoon, made in a beautiful Swedish Victorian design.
The set dates to the late 19th century and blends classical architectural shapes with naturalistic motifs. C.G. Hallberg was active in Stockholm from 1860 to 1961 and was the jeweler to the Swedish Royal Court.
The sugar bowl stands on a triform base with pearl-shaped lower sections. It is lifted by three long, elegant legs, each crowned with a sculptural seashell motif, and is paw-shaped at the bottom.
The rim is decorated with a wide and intricate band of floral repoussé scrollwork in relief.
The bowl features two distinctive finials. The lower finial, positioned at the very bottom of the vessel, is shaped as a wild strawberry, a classic Swedish botanical motif. The upper finial on the lid is formed as a pine cone or pineapple, a traditional symbol associated with hospitality and abundance.
The sugar bowl is made in high-quality silver plate throughout. The lid is fitted with a precision-cut spoon notch, allowing the spoon to rest inside the bowl while fully closed.
The sugar spoon is a long Victorian sugar spoon with a beautifully gilded bowl formed in a seashell motif.
The spoon is marked on the back “EX PR NS AL”, EX - extra high-grade plating, PR - Prima first quality, and NS - Nysilver, & AL - Alpaca/silver-plated
The sugar bowl is stamped with C.G.HG., Stockholm city mark, and NS.
Condition is lovely with light surface wear. There are no breaks or repairs. The top finial has a very minor bend to one side - nothing serious at all. Overall, the bowl and spoon look amazing.
Height: 26.5 cm
Bowl diameter: 11 cm
Width across feet: approximately 13 cm
Spoon length: approximately 18.7 cm
Total weight: 608 g
