Early 20th‑century non‑striking table clock from Germany by Berger & Würker/Lenzkirch, circa 1895–1905, with a mechanical eight‑day movement, oak and brass case, winding key included, 21 × 31 × 12 cm and 925 g, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
High-quality non-striking buffet or mantel clock from the early 20th century (approx. 1905–1995), crafted for upscale living spaces. The clock comes from a commercial edition by Berger & Würker, a well-known distributor of high-quality clocks that has demonstrably worked with manufacturers from the Black Forest, including the milieu of the Lenzkirch clock industry. On the back of the case there is an original brass plaque bearing the initials B & W / L, documenting this distributor association.
Unlike many contemporary, industrially simplified buffet clocks, this specimen features above-average material and workmanship quality. The case is partly solid oak; plinths and decorative elements are carved. In structurally required areas, heavy oak veneer has been glued onto a pine core. The pronounced veneer thickness and the clean workmanship correspond to the upscale quality of such commercial editions and explain the very good condition of preservation to this day.
The clock is equipped with an original, strike-less spring-driven movement with an anchor escapement and pendulum. The movement is functional and designed for a multi-day running time (about 8 days). A striking mechanism is not present by design. On the movement plate there is a scratched cross mark, a period-typical internal workshop or inspection mark, as is often found on unsigned Black Forest trade movements of this era. The mark does not represent a manufacturer or brand designation.
This watch impresses with its high-quality materials, solid craftsmanship, and a very well-preserved original condition.
The sale is being conducted due to the collector's lack of space. Images may differ slightly in color from the actual item.
