Description from the seller
Rare set of 6 Gien serving plates – France – 1960s/1970s – Mid-Century luxury in mustard and olive tones
Description
This is not tableware... This is a table scene from a French mansion, somewhere between Paris and the Loire.
This set of six divided plates was produced by Gien, one of the most renowned French faience factories. The iconic castle mark with “GIEN FRANCE” is clearly on the back and confirms origin and authenticity.
The design is distinctly mid-century. Graphic. Rhythmic. Elegant. Each plate is composed of flowing compartments around a central bowl, designed for fondue, hors-d’oeuvres, or shared dining. Functional and sculptural.
The glazes in warm mustard, honey, and olive tones give the set a pronounced luxurious look. The visible craquelure is characteristic of this type of glaze and belongs to the production period. It adds depth, character, and a lively surface.
These are signs that you don’t hide away in a cupboard.
They belong on the table. Or on the wall. Or in an open display cabinet where they can be seen.
If you're reading this and thinking 'it's for me,' then you're in the right place.
