Günther Uecker - Günther Uecker - 1988

This 1987 offset lithograph on Velin paper is a very characteristic work by the German painter Günther Uecker (1930-2025). Uecker, one of the most innovative postwar artists in Germany, created figures and reliefs with nails. He played with light and shadow, harmony and rhythm, and his work reflected a range of themes such as nature and spirituality. In this fine work, which is signed and dated in the edition, nails essentially cross each other.

This work was probably created in the context of the first edition (1988) of a series of slim periodicals titled ‘Künstler - Kritisches Lexicon der Gegenwartskunst’, ‘Eine Edition der Verlage Weltkunst und Bruckmann München’. On the front cover of this accompanying issue (photographs were taken of all the pages) the work in question is also depicted. The offset lithograph is very well preserved.
