Description from the seller

A miniature folio from a Quran originating in the state of Bihar, India, circa 1425 in fair condition. It is written in the very distinctive style of Bihari (after the State), characterised by wide, heavy and extended horizontal lines, and thin verticals. In this case there are 16 lines of fine script on with gold 'aya' marking the verses and red diacriticals providing devotional direction. It also contains a several 'Allah' in gold. The folio has an elaborate illuminated header marking the new chapter together with an elaborate marginal Juz .

The scripture below the chapter heading is from chapter 70, Al-Ma'arij (Pathways of the 'Heavenly'), v1:12. These verses discuss the certainty of the Day of Judgment, responding to disbelievers who mockingly ask for punishment to hasten. These verses describe the terror of that day, emphasizing that it cannot be averted and that close relationships will be severed, with evildoers wishing to sacrifice everything to escape the punishment. Key themes are that: The Day of Judgment is not a myth; it is approaching, regardless of whether people believe in it.; those who mock the afterlife will face unavoidable suffering.; and the terror will be so great that all worldly connections and love for family will disappear, replaced by a desperate desire to save oneself.

It also contains the final 2 verses of Chapter 69, Al-Haqqah (The inevitable hour).
