A large Dogon iron figure / staff , with a long flat body, at its end two squigly arms and long thin curved head. Good condition with a nice aged patina. This ritual staff exemplifies the classic Dogon style, depicting a figure with simplified features, arms raised in the air. This posture, borrowed from the Tellem, is a sign of connection with the afterlife where the deceased reside.
Dogon iron ritual figure, in anthropomorphic form standing with one outstretched arm. Object with beautiful patina.
Provenance: Manfred Schäfer, fromer gallery owner from Ulm, Germany.
