Description from the seller

Antique French Silver Snuff Box – Minerva 1st Standard (950/1000) – 19th Century

Elegant antique French silver box, traditionally used as a snuff box, crafted in solid silver of the highest French standard (Minerva head, 1st standard – 950/1000).

This refined box dates to the 19th century and features a shaped rectangular form with softly scalloped sides, typical of French silver work of the period. The lid is finely decorated with rococo-inspired scrollwork and floral ornamentation, framing a smooth central cartouche. The decoration is subtle and well-balanced, giving the piece a timeless and elegant appearance.

The interior is gilt (vermeil), a practical and traditional feature intended to protect the silver from oxidation caused by tobacco or other aromatic contents. The box closes neatly with its original hinged lid.

Originally intended as a snuff box, it would have been used to store finely ground tobacco. Today, such boxes are also appreciated as collectible objects, or for storing small personal items such as pills, keepsakes, or rings.
