The specific model shown in the photo is the AF-D or AF version (without a built-in motor), recognizable by the physical aperture ring at the base and the absence of the “BIM” (built-in motor) or “USD” label. This means that autofocus will only operate on Nikon bodies with an internal AF motor (such as the D7000, D500, D850, D5, etc.), while on entry-level D3xxx or D5xxx series bodies it will only achieve manual focus.


The lens is a true macro with a 1:1 reproduction ratio (life-size). It is equipped with a focusing limiter ("limit/full") to speed up AF when working at non-close distances, and with a push-pull system on the focus ring to quickly switch from AF to MF.
