Arabic Qur'an leaf, dated AH1256 (AD 1840/41), single-page miniature (13 × 9.5 cm), attributed to Hafiz Mustafa bin Ali, containing the first 11 verses of Surah Al-Qamar and the final verses of An-Najm, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
An interesting and rare small form leaf from a Qu'ran containing the first 11 verses of chapter 54, Al Qamar (The Moon), together with the final 4 verses of its preceding chapter, An-Najm (The Stars). Verses 1-11 of Surah Al-Qamar focus on the immediacy of the Day of Judgment, the splitting of the moon as a sign, the stubborn denial of the disbelievers, and a reference to the historical destruction of the people of Noah. The splitting of the moon is presented as a "manifest sign" of the nearness of the Hour, challenging the disbelievers’ denial. The disbelievers are portrayed as stubborn, dismissing signs as magic or illusions, even when faced with clear evidence. The verses remind the reader that just as past nations were destroyed, the Day of Judgment is guaranteed, and that day will be a "difficult" time of fear and accountability. The final verses of chapter 53 shift from the narrative of the Prophet’s ascension to a direct address to the disbelievers of Quraish. They highlight the absurdity of mocking the Quran, the inevitability of divine judgment, and the command to submit to Allah.
It is dated AH1256 (AD1840/1) and signed by Hafiz Darwish Mustafa b 'Ali', and rescued from an early, but damaged, Qur'an. It is in very good condition, showing little devotional use. A very decorative an unusual marginal adds a unique touch to this manuscript leaf.
