Description from the seller
1950s Hand-Engraved Brass Pitcher Table Lamp – Orientalist Decorative Lighting
This striking table lamp is crafted from an engraved brass pitcher, transformed into a unique lighting object that blends traditional craftsmanship with mid-20th-century decorative design. Its warm patina and sculptural presence make it a captivating accent for both classic and eclectic interiors.
The body features rich hand-engraved geometric and figurative motifs inspired by Orientalist and Middle Eastern decorative arts. The rounded form is complemented by an elegant handle and a flared neck, giving the piece a strong sculptural identity. The brass surface displays a deep golden tone with natural oxidation and iridescent highlights, enhancing its authentic aged character.
The brass vessel itself is likely of Middle Eastern or North African origin, produced using traditional hand-engraving techniques. The transformation into a table lamp was most probably carried out in France during the mid-20th century, a common practice at the time for repurposing decorative metalware into lighting objects. The craftsmanship is evident in the detailed chiseling and rhythmic engraved patterns covering the entire surface.
The lamp has been electrified and is functional. It presents numerous and clearly visible dents across the body, along with pronounced signs of wear and surface irregularities. These bosselures are an important characteristic of the piece, resulting from age and use, and should be considered an integral part of its authentic vintage condition rather than defects.
Dimensions: height 38 cm (14.96 in); diameter approximately 22.3 cm (8.78 in).
A highly decorative and collectible lighting piece, ideal for collectors of Orientalist objects, vintage lighting, or statement interior décor.
Please note: no maker’s mark or certificate is present.
