Description from the seller
German Rococo red earthenware tea service – Schiller & Gerbing, Bodenbach, circa 1840
a remarkable German red earthenware tea service in Rococo style, manufactured by Schiller & Gerbing in Bodenbach, circa 1840.
Wilhelm Leberecht Schiller and Friedrich Vincent Meinulph Gerbing jointly established their pottery factory in Bodenbach, south of Cologne, in 1829. Their characteristic red pottery was achieved by coloring the clay itself, finished with a thin, glossy glaze that seals the surface. This technique yields a warm, deep color with a refined appearance.
The dinnerware is in fair to good, authentic condition for its age. The glaze has faded in some areas, giving the piece a soft, matte patina. View the photos to get a good sense of the condition.
