Description from the seller

"Elizabeth II" gold sovereign

The gold sovereigns of Queen Elizabeth II feature five different portraits of the Sovereign.
The first portrait of Her Majesty was issued in 1953, circulating from 1957 to 1968, under the name of Mary Gillick's bow or small bow, and it represented a fresh start after World War II, heralding a new Elizabethan era.

- Obverse: The bare head of the queen facing to the right, with a ribbon behind the hair, the letters M.G. on the lower part of the bust.

- Reverse: Saint George with a cloak flowing from his helmet, on horseback while slaying the dragon with his sword. The date is below the line of the inscription, with the small letters B.P. on the right.
