Description from the seller
Christofle extendable warming trivet – silvered metal – Art Nouveau – Belle Époque – original casters – circa 1900
CC + balance = Christofle & Cie
Official mark used between 1862 and 1935. Floral Art Nouveau style.
CC hallmark, balance, long numbering. Dating highly probable: 1895 – 1915
Full Belle Époque / Art Nouveau period.
Elegant extensible heated under-plate in Art Nouveau style, made by the prestigious house Christofle (Paris), dating from the Belle Époque period, circa 1895–1915.
This rare model is equipped with an articulated extendable mechanical system that allows the supporting surface to adapt to different dish formats. It is also fitted with four original casters, designed to facilitate moving hot dishes directly onto the table, a use typical of large bourgeois dining tables from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The tray features a finely cut Art Nouveau floral openwork design, characteristic of the organic and naturalistic style of that period. The symmetric central composition, paired with curved lines and botanical motifs, testifies to the high level of decorative quality typical of Christofle productions from that era.
The object bears the official Christofle 'CC Balance' hallmark, used between 1862 and 1935, guaranteeing authentic production by the Parisian house. It is also stamped with the number 18, corresponding to a thick, high-quality silvering, as well as an internal manufacturing reference number.
Made of silvered metal (electrolytic silvering on a metal base), this under-plate preserves a beautiful, homogeneous antique patina, with light signs of use and micro-scratches consistent with its age and original use. The mechanism is functional, the casters are present and operational, and the structure is sound.
This is a refined and decorative table piece, sought after by both silverware collectors and enthusiasts of Art Nouveau design and Belle Époque decorative arts.
