Description from the seller
Distinguished Ebony and Silver Walking Cane - France, 1900s
For sale, an exceptional collectible piece: a French walking cane that combines the nobility of black ebony with the refinement of hallmarked silver. An accessory that embodies the timeless elegance of the early twentieth century.
Natural Ebony Shaft: The body of the cane is entirely made from precious ebony, a wood sought after for its natural dark coloration, its extreme hardness, and its velvety finish to the touch.
Certified French Silver: The decorations include original hallmarks that attest to French manufacture. The maker's mark (in a lozenge) and the silver guarantee mark (probably Minerva or Boar's Head) are present.
The central silver plaque is enriched by an elegant hand-engraved monogram with the intertwined initials "AR" (or "RA"), a testament to a prestigious private commission.
The cane presents a classic line with a curved grip ('beak' style) and silver ferrules crafted with a delicate hammered finish that contrasts splendidly with the deep black of the wood.
The object is in excellent condition for its era. The ebony retains its integrity and natural sheen, while the silver preserves its original patina, a sign of authenticity and historical charm.
The pairing of ebony and silver makes this cane an item of high antique value. It is a perfect piece for discerning collectors or as a distinctive accessory for a formal, historically inspired outfit.
Dimensions: height 91 cm x 10.50 x 2 cm
