This is a 1810c Genuine Spencer & Co Set of Masonic Working Tools, specifically a square and compass, in a presentation box manufactured by Spencer & Co. of London.
The set includes the two most recognizable symbols of Freemasonry, the square and compass, which are considered the working tools of a Master Mason.
These items are made of metal with a silver finish and feature ornate engraving.
The blue velvet-lined, triangular box indicates the manufacturer as "Spencer & Co Masonic Manufacturers" of Great Queen Street, London, established in 1801.
Used for ritual use and after given as gifts to new Master Masons.

Compass dimensions: weight-54g, length folded-14.5cm, length open 28cm
Square dimensions: weight-52g, length- 14cm, width-2.1cm
In Masonic ritual, these "working tools" are not used for construction but for self-improvement:
*The Square: Symbolizes morality and honesty. It serves as a reminder to "square" one's actions and behave fairly toward others.
*The Compasses: Symbolize self-restraint and spiritual boundaries. They represent the importance of keeping one's desires and passions within "due bounds".
*Combined: Together, they represent the union of the material (Square) and spiritual (Compasses) realms.
